Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operations (SRBO)

Upon successful completion of Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operations (SRBO), students will be able to safely deploy, operate, and execute rescues with motorized craft in the swiftwater and flood environment.
Course topics include: boat and motor types, construction, and maintenance; trailering, launching and retrieving boats; hydrology and navigation with, across, and against current; and techniques for steering around obstacles and river features. Boats will be used to deploy and retrieve rescue swimmers and manage victims. Students will participate in low light/night search, boat operation, and special problem evolutions (i.e. motor failure, boat capsize).
NIMS Rescue Boat Operations standard requires SRBO and Flood Rescue Boat Operator or a NIMS Rescue Boat Operator course. SRBO is a three day course designed for agencies integrating boats in search and rescue operations. This course has an instructor student ratio of 1:12 with a minimum of 8 students per instructor.
