Upon successful completion of the course, a Personal Water Craft (PWC) Rescue Technician will be able to safely deploy and operate a PWC, as an operator and rescue crewman, in flat and moving water environments.
Course topics include: construction, maintenance, and repair of the PWC; transporting, launching and retrieving the PWC; operation of the PWC with an emphasis on rescuer safety; hydrology and understanding the moving water environment; PWC rescue skills and techniques; deploying and retrieving rescue swimmers; and site or agency specific topics. Attention and instructional time will be used to identify and manage unique water environment, current, tidal, and shoreline hazards specific to PWC operation. Instruction and feedback from instructors will help participants identify personal and equipment limitations and assets, so they may safely and effectively deploy and operate the PWC.
This three day course is designed for agencies operating in ocean, tidal, lake, moving water (river), and flood environments. Instructor student ratio is 1:12 with a minimum of 8 students per instructor.
